X-Men: Days of Future Past is turning into a thoroughly unconventional franchise effort, a sequel to a prequel that wraps itself around the movies getting prequelized in the first place. Not only is the text itself turning into an X-pretzel, but Bryan Singer, the director of X-Men and X2, is once again directing the mutant mayhem.
Singer's now talking about just how the time travel story will work in X-Men: Days of Future Past and how it will square the often disparate continuities presented by the series so far.
We've spent the last month or so offhandedly wondering which actors from the established X-Men franchise would reprise their familiar roles in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

She has also appeared in such big screen films as Serenity, The Spirit, New Year’s Eve, and Martha Marcy May Marlene. Not to mention the critically acclaimed HBO film Game Change, which has earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film at this Sunday’s Awards ceremony. But first, the talented actress can be seen once again on the big screen in the new film Fairhaven, which opens in theaters on January 11th and VOD January 15th.
Fairhaven was written and directed by actor Tom O’Brien (The Next Karate Kid) based on a story written by him and fellow actor Chris Messina (Argo). The film revolves around Dave (Messina), a drifter who returns home to a small Massachusetts fishing village for his father’s funeral. While there, he reunites with his two best friends form high school, Jon (O’Brien) and Sam (Rich Sommer), who are also both having a difficult time adjusting to adult life. He also comes in contact with Sam’s ex-wife, Kate (Paulson), who Dave had secretly had an affair with years before. The reunion brings back old feelings for both Dave and Kate, and forces him to confront everything he had been running away from.
I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Sarah Paulson about Fairhaven, as well as her work on American Horror Story: Asylum, and the upcoming film Twelve Years a Slave, which was directed by Steve McQueen (Shame) and also stars Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The talented actress discussed her new film, her character, how she got the part, working with writer/director/actor Tom O’Brien, performing opposite Chris Messina, the process of acting, American Horror Story: Asylum, if she will return for season three, becoming friends with legendary actress Jessica Lange, Twelve Years a Slave, and what it was like collaborating with director Steve McQueen and actor Michael Fassbender.
Prometheus has come and gone, leaving in its wake many a narrative nitpick, lingering question, and pissed off fanboy. Nonetheless, Ridley Scott's Alien prequel collected $402 million globally, meaning that Scott's planned sequel to the prequel may just come to fruition at 20th Century Fox.

Now, we have confirmation that Jackman's negotiations have concluded and he will indeed join the time-traveling prequel sequel to last year's X-Men: First Class.

As expected, X-Men: First Class stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult have all been confirmed to return for X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sequel to last year's prequel. But here's where things get bananas: Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will reprise their roles as Professor X and Magneto, too.
On any day not inundated with frenzied Lucasfilm-Disney talk, this would be the biggest news going: Bryan Singer will indeed step in to direct X-Men: Days of Future Past, a sequel to a prequel to his first X-Men movie.
Being a prequel, last year's X-Men: First Class had a straightforward narrative, basically a hetero love story gone awry between Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr. For the sequel, however, director Matthew Vaughn is mixing things up by telling the first cinematic X-Men story built around time travel. Mark Millar, 20th Century Fox's shepherd for their Marvel Comics properties, is talking up X-Men: Days of Future Past in Millar-ian fashion, revealing just a little bit about the story.
